Location: Home-based

Travel: None anticipated

Reporting to: Head of Special Projects, with matrix management by the Head of Crisis Response

Due to the urgency of the vacancy, shortlisting will be done on a rolling basis and if the ideal candidate is identified before the closing date, TWB reserves the right to close the recruitment before the application deadline.

The role

The Program Coordinator coordinates internally and externally to ensure the timely and effective delivery and communication of language technology, research and other services in support of the COVID-19 response and wider humanitarian action. This diverse role combines project management for components of TWB’s global COVID-19 response efforts, cross-team coordination for the effective development and deployment of multilingual chatbots and other language tech tools, and partnership development and external representation.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate delivery and monitoring of three projects, in line with donor and TWB standards, liaising between teams and with partner organizations, and promoting effective planning and communication:

  • multi-country development and deployment of multilingual chatbots for COVID-19

  • development and piloting of language technology for enhanced humanitarian data quality in Nigeria

  • language support to multi-country COVID-19 rumor tracking and media development

  • Support the management of project budgets, evaluation and reporting in line with TWB and donor requirements, with support from finance and global crisis response colleagues

  • Support the coordination of multi-country qualitative research around COVID-19, in close collaboration with the Global Researcher and country research leads/CDs, ensuring cross-learning with the chatbot program

  • Represent TWB’s COVID-19 and language technology work in relevant humanitarian forums, using evidence and learning to raise awareness of the importance and impact of language and language tech in public health emergencies and humanitarian action

  • Coordinate TWB’s global COVID-19 program development, identifying funding and partnership opportunities and developing proposals based on ongoing scoping of need and information from TWB’s programs and partner engagement

  • In collaboration with TWB’s global finance and HR teams, support the Head of Special Projects and Head of Crisis Response to ensure financial and HR procedures are adhered to

  • Contribute to a positive, innovative and supportive work environment where TWB’s values are understood and upheld

Qualifications

The COVID-19 Program Coordinator should be an innovative self-starter with a strong sense of initiative, an understanding of the humanitarian sector and management credentials, and enthusiastic about the importance of increasing access to knowledge through language. The right candidate is an energetic team player and leader who agrees with TWB´s basic beliefs and values and who can work virtually with team members based throughout the world.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of project design and management experience in the humanitarian sector

  • International humanitarian aid experience and demonstrated understanding of communicating with communities/accountability to affected populations/risk communication and community engagement programming

  • 3+ years’ experience of external representation, with a track record of effective coordination and liaison with UN agencies, international NGOs and governments

  • Excellent writing and presentation skills in English

  • Familiarity with language and/or communications technology desirable

  • Medical or health sector background a plus

  • Interpreting or translation experience a plus
