Announcement of need for consulting services

Summary

Heartland Alliance International (HAI) is seeking a consultant to lead the development and launch of a strategy for private donor and foundation fundraising in the area of international HIV/AIDS during the months of February and March 2018.

Description of Heartland Alliance International

HAI is the global arm of Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights, a family of organizations that has been leading anti-poverty and social justice work in Chicago for more than 125 years. HAI is comprised of nearly a dozen country offices implementing programs on a range of health and human rights issues globally. HAI is a leader in access to high-quality and stigma-free health care.

Since 2009, HAI has implemented effective, large-scale programs that reach heavily stigmatized key populations in Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and the Dominican Republic with comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care services.

Time frame of services needed

Expected from between February 1 – March 30, 2018.

21 days, including possible travel

Summary of Scope of Work

In conjunction with HAI staff and consultants, this consultant will:

  • Conduct a document review and meet virtually with HAI staff to assess HAI’s current strategic plan, existing grants, business development structure in Chicago and in the field.

  • Complete a market analysis for private donor and foundation funding opportunities taking into account HAI’s key areas of expertise in international HIV programming that incorporate trauma-informed mental health, access to justice and gender equity, as well as its geographic scope.

  • Develop a strategy that:

    1. Identifies specific funding opportunities and relationships to track;

    2. Provides recommendations for targeted outreach to potential donors including relevant points of contact;

    3. Provides information on budgeting for proposal development;

    4. Provides sample proposal language for use with specific private donors that ties HAI’s strengths and capacities to donor priorities;

    5. Proposes a subbing strategy;

    6. Provides recommendations on HAI’s business development processes and organizational structure that will better position HAI to win these grants.

Deliverables:

The Business Development Consultant will complete the deliverables below:

  • A final report including the points listed in the key responsibilities section above.

  • A final presentation to HAI leadership summarizing the main contents of the report and communicating recommendations for grant acquisition strategy.

  • Contacts and meetings with key private donor/foundation stakeholders and potential funding opportunities.

Payment Schedule:

  • Payment will be provided following receipt of invoice after services have been delivered.

    Consultant profile

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • A track record of successful fundraising in the nexus of HIV/AIDS services and or international development through private donors and foundations including foundations and other bilateral and multilateral financing sources particularly for programs in Africa

  • Preferred but not required: knowledge/experience with programs for key populations in Africa

Daily rate will be based on verified past assignments and HAI funding availability.
