The mission of Translators without Borders is to provide people access to vital knowledge in their language through translation and interpreting, building language translation capacity at a local level, providing translation and simplification services that are culturally appropriate, accessible and open source, and raising awareness globally of language barriers.

Hours: Full time
Location: Home based, preferable available during working hours in Europe

About Translators without Borders
Translators without Borders (TWB) envisions a world where knowledge knows no language barriers. The US-based non-profit provides people access to vital knowledge in their language by connecting non-profit organizations with a community of language professionals, building local language translation capacity, and raising awareness of language barriers. Originally founded in 1993 in France (as Traducteurs sans Frontières), TWB translates millions of words of life-saving and life-changing information every year.

Background
TWB offers a six-month internship with the opportunity to work for a thriving international non-profit organization.

The role
To build awareness of Translators without Borders and the organization’s work to increase access to critical information and knowledge, the successful candidate will support the Communications Senior Officer, the External Affairs Director and the Deputy Director in the following areas:

Responsibilities

  • Use digital media to support the communications and program teams to build the TWB brand awareness globally, to engage supporters, donors, and partners, and to reach new audiences.
  • Research, and help draft and disseminate engaging content for awareness raising materials and digital media campaigns. (e.g., newsletter, blogs posts, fundraising campaigns, press releases)
  • Work with the program teams to effectively highlight their work in creative formats.
    Support digital fundraising initiatives.
  • Work with other team members to prepare for events and conferences.
  • Carry out administrative tasks for the Communications Team such as maintaining shared documents and database management.
  • Assisting with organization-wide team-building initiatives

Required skills

  • Significant experience of social and digital media for marketing purposes
  • Experience of digital marketing tools (Mailchimp, Canva)
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity in communications
  • Analytical thinker able to transform ideas into tangible actions
  • Excellent level of written English and strong writing skills
  • WordPress and/or design and/or DTP skills a plus
  • A self-starter – proactive and able to work independently
  • Evidence of working as a good communicator
  • Highly organized
  • A demonstrated interest in international development issues desirable
  • Competency in other languages desirable
